Description: Ane-Katrine von Bülow's most recent ceramic pieces carry motifs of leaves; their stems winding up the exterior and flowing into the inside of her vessel forms, her designs appear as an espalier. In her practice she continues to use print in black and white on porcelain so that the flora appears as a silhouette. Von Bülow says that her designs are inspired by looking up at the sky through the branches and leaves of trees. She has used photographs of this scenery in the development of her designs. This organically inspired decoration is a divergence from her previous designs whose source of inspiration was industrial materials such as links of mesh and netting. These former retiary patterns are literal interpretations where the viewer can identify the interlocking lines of mesh, however they also developed into small angular shapes which are in fact, elements taken from the mesh. These freer dynamic shapes dance spontaneously on the surfaces of her forms.
